Joalharia do Carmo celebrates centenary with "Filigree" exhibition and launch of digital certificate

Joalharia do Carmo celebrates its centenary with an exhibition entitled "Filigree" at the National Museum of Contemporary Art, in Lisbon. In addition to displaying unique handmade jewels, Joalharia do Carmo is the first brand to have jewelry with the digital certificate of Contrastaria Portuguesa, a project by Imprensa Nacional Casa da Moeda.

On the centenary of its foundation, Joalharia do Carmo celebrates a history of elegance and tradition and marks a new chapter. Praising the distinctive art of Filigree, the brand delves into the rich heritage of Portuguese jewellery, highlighting a technique that has become its true passion in the last two years.

Founded on January 14, 1924 and used, in the first decades, to receiving the Lisbon elite, Joalharia do Carmo is today a space that gives stage to the most transversal of Portuguese jewelry arts: Filigree.

By offering exclusively Certified Portuguese Filigree, a legacy of wisdom, tradition, tiny details and designs that have survived the passage of time, Joalharia do Carmo not only reinforces its commitment to tradition, but also establishes an innovative bridge with modernity. Two years ago, the brand signed a cooperation protocol with ACertifica, the certifying entity, and the municipalities of Gondomar and Póvoa de Lanhoso, the two major production centers where Filigree is Intangible Cultural Heritage.

This alliance guaranteed the continuity of the artisans’ art, but also highlighted their work in the most recent exhibition within the scope of the Quarteirão das Artes and the MNAC national project, “Portugal entre Patrimónios”. The exhibition, on display until February 4, from Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 am to 6 pm, is a dive into tradition, presenting stories of artisans and unique jewelry that combine ancestral methods with contemporary design.

The big news lies in the initiative of Joalharia do Carmo to be the pioneer in the pilot project of the Imprensa Nacional-Casa da Moeda – UniqueMark® Digital Certificate – which brings the precious metals certification process into the digital era, in what is the oldest way of consumer protection. Issued by a secure platform, this certificate provides a unique experience to the consumer, guaranteeing the authenticity of the jewelry through a simple smartphone.

Through the official Contrastaria App, the UniqueMark® Digital Certificate provides a comprehensive view of the jewelry, from the laboratory test to the affixing of the hallmark. Each piece is equipped with a label and a card with a unique cryptographic code, ensuring the traceability and legitimacy of the jewels. This innovative project adds value and confidence to the end consumer, protects against counterfeits, guaranteeing the authenticity of the jewelry and preserving the continuity of the artisanal profession, reflecting Joalharia do Carmo’s true commitment to the social economy.
