In 2021, the Group O Valor do Tempo joined forces with the artisans of the Figurado de Barcelos to fulfil a long-held dream: to create a space unlike any other in the country or the world, where only Figurado de Barcelos is exhibited and sold, and where each piece takes its rightful place at the heart of history. In downtown Lisbon, a stage of vibrant colours rises, where Minho presents itself to the world with dignity and originality.
The Figurines are popular because it comes from the people, and that’s why it’s so wise. The figures are seven-headed beasts, pilgrimage musicians, peasant women with scarves on their heads, laughing demons, and saints with tender eyes. They are satire, devotion, and freedom – all shaped from the same clay. Valuing heritage has always been our banner. And in this union of hands and desires, we reaffirm pride in what is Portuguese: the hands, the stories, the enduring popular joy. It’s genuine Portugal, with clay on its hands and its whole soul in tradition.
