A conversation about the importance of safeguarding and preserving traditional crafts at risk of disappearing, drawing on the work developed by Ra-Ro – Made from Unique Crafts.
In the first part of the session, Luís Serra, Sérgio Carvalho and Tiago Reis, founders of Ra-Ro, will introduce the project, its origins and the mission behind it: to discover endangered regional crafts, techniques and products, document the stories and people who keep them alive, and contribute to their recognition and preservation.
The conversation will then focus on a specific example: the Genuíno Cobertor de Papa, a traditional blanket from Maçainhas, in Guarda, whose production once came close to disappearing. Joining this second part of the discussion will be Maria do Céu Reis, an artisan associated with Associação O Genuíno Cobertor de Papa. Her first-hand account will offer insight into the knowledge, skills and techniques involved in making these blankets, as well as the challenges of keeping this heritage alive and passing it on to future generations.
Free admission. Registration required. Limited places available.
