Joalharia do Carmo presents the first edition of the Filigree Design Competition, a national competition aimed at young people aged 18 to 29 that poses a simple yet demanding question: how can Portuguese filigree continue to thrive in the 21st century?

Founded in 1924 and now recognized as the largest showcase of certified Portuguese filigree, the brand assumes the responsibility of protecting this ancestral art through reinvention.

This competition challenges participants to design a filigree jewel based on a brief revealed on the morning of March 28, 2026, in an intensive, in-person format, on Rua das Flores, in Porto. During the day, participants will design their proposals, which must be submitted no later than 5:30 PM that day. From that moment, a jury composed of seven members connected to the national jewelry industry will deliberate and choose the 3 winning projects, which will be revealed at 8 PM, with the awarding of prizes.

Three prizes
The first place winner will receive a cash prize of 2,500 euros, the second place winner a prize of 1,500 euros and the third place winner a prize of 1,000 euros.

In addition, the first place winner will see their jewelry produced and sold in the stores of Joalharia do Carmo, also benefiting from the official marking of these pieces and the issuance of the respective digital certificates by the Assay Office of the National Mint. More than a competition, it is a commitment: to ensure that Portuguese filigree is not a static memory, but a territory of creation, economy and contemporary identity.

How to participate?
Participants can participate individually or in groups of 2, and must register by 11:59 PM on March 25, 2026. Participation is free, but limited to 200 participants, so it is recommended that those interested hurry to register before places run out.
