Póvoa de Varzim’s traditions take centre stage in an event bringing together music, folklore and craftsmanship, celebrating two important symbols of the city’s cultural identity.
At 15:00, the event begins with a parade and performance by Rancho Folclórico Poveiro along Rua das Flores. The group was created with the aim of preserving the traditional costumes, dances and songs associated with Póvoa de Varzim’s fishing community.
At 16:00, the Camisola Poveira Workshop begins, led by three certified artisans. The session opens with a brief introduction to the history and tradition of this emblematic piece of local culture, cross-stitched with maritime motifs and the traditional siglas poveiras (Poveiro symbols). This is followed by a hands-on session, offering participants a closer look at the craftsmanship, techniques and distinctive elements that make the Camisola Poveira a unique expression of Póvoa de Varzim’s heritage and identity.
